VEGAN CANDLES
Share
If you abstain from using animal products and want to find a healthier burning candle, you might find candle shopping to be a frustrating endeavor. Soy candles are vegan because they are made with a vegetable wax.
Many of the candles sold on the market today use animal products or are made from unhealthy paraffin wax. Beeswax for example comes from the hive of bees and is commonly used in candle making. You can still find candles made with whale or dolphin by products and tallow which is fat from animals.
Paraffin wax is considered vegan but has a negative impact on your health and the environment. Paraffin wax is made with the petroleum by product that is created when crude oil is refined into gasoline. Palm wax is also a vegan wax that is obtained in the oil palm from Southeast Asia. Farming palm oil has a huge impact on the environment because of the deforestation of the oldest and most diverse rainforest in the world.
Coconut wax is also vegan but is softer than soy wax and needs to be mixed with other waxes such as paraffin, beeswax or palm wax.
Candles that are labeled soy blend are usually made with a soy paraffin wax blend and other non vegan waxes. Soy wax candles are 100% vegan and do not contain any animal byproducts in their production or use, making them cruelty free, eco-friendly and made with the most thoughtful ingredients.
